A hungry child is digging in the mud. A Black women is grinning at us. Billboard advertisements of charities like „Brot für die Welt“, „Care International“, „Welthungerhilfe“, etc. are omnipresent in German public sphere. White Charity, the documentary project of Carolin Philipp and Timo Kiesel, is dealing with these posters and analyses strategies and impacts of donation ads in development cooperation. We are following the applied stereotypes about Black people and discuss the White image of the Self that lies behind the posters. |
